The Trinbago Unified Calypsonians’ Organisation (TUCO) was formed as a result of the amalgamation of two factions, the calypso association and the young upstarts who bandied together to form the Trinidad Calysonians organization. The new body which today represents over 600 practicing artistes and is known as the Trinbago Unified Calypsonians organization, was recognized as a national body and incorporated by an Act of Parliament No. 33 of 1998.
It’s mission is to grow TUCO into a caring viable organization providing for the artistic social and economic welfare of its members, increasing the exposure of calypso to the people of the world”.
The TUCO logo type is executed in the national colours making an immediate association with an organization belonging to Trinidad and Tobago. Since carnival 1998 TUCO has been responsible for the production and promotion of the national calypso monarch competition in partnership with the national carnival commission. Calypso fiesta which is the main stepping stone of the national calypso monarch title is mandated as the biggest calypso picnic in the world. Here the cream of the calypso crop vies for a place in the final while entertaining thousands of calypso lovers.
